
The 22nd Edition of the Road Safety Journalism Award by Línea Directa Foundation opens its call for entries
- The Road Safety Journalism Award by Línea Directa Foundation annually recognizes the best reports and articles on road safety published and broadcast in Spain, always with the aim of raising awareness and sensitizing society about the importance of responsible driving.
- The jury, composed of 9 prestigious journalists, communicators, road safety experts, and business personalities, will once again be chaired by Pere Navarro, Director General of Traffic.
- The winners of each of the three journalistic categories (Press and Online Media, Radio, and Television) will receive €10,000 net, tax-free, with special consideration given to the quality, approach, and originality of their works and reports.
- In addition to the journalistic categories, the contest includes two other awards: the Solidarity Award, with a financial endowment of €10,000 net, which recognizes the work of organizations specializing in Road Safety, and the Honorary Road Safety Award, without financial reward, which is awarded to journalists, communicators, or organizations that have stood out for their career in favor of road safety.
- The deadline for submitting works will end on April 4, and the winners will be announced in June at a gala to be held at the Gran Teatro Príncipe Pío in Madrid.
Madrid, 11 February 2025. – The figures are worrying. In 2023, the last year with definitive figures 30 days after the accident, 1,806 people lost their lives on the road, 60 more than in 2022. The preliminary figures for 2024, recently published, are also not positive, as last year ended with a figure of 1,154 deaths in traffic accidents on interurban roads within 24 hours of the accident, 10 more than the previous year. Therefore, Línea Directa Foundation is once again calling for entries for the Road Safety Journalism Award, convinced of the importance of the work of journalism and communication professionals in raising awareness and sensitizing society in the field of road responsibility.
The award, considered one of the most relevant in Spanish journalism, will celebrate its 22nd anniversary in 2025 and includes three journalistic categories: Press and Online Media, Radio, and Television, each endowed with €10,000 net, tax-free. The winners will be announced next June at a gala to be held at the Gran Teatro Príncipe Pío in Madrid.
To submit works for the Road Safety Journalism Award, journalists can send their works to the address premio.lineadirecta@trescom.es until April 4. The requirements are simple: articles, programs, and reports must have been broadcast or published in any of the newspapers, magazines, online media, television channels, or radio stations with local, regional, or national coverage and must deal with road safety. These works must have been broadcast or published between March 1, 2024, and March 1, 2025, inclusive.
A prestigious jury
Pere Navarro, Director General of Traffic, will once again chair the prestigious jury composed of 9 leading figures in journalism, administration, communication, or the business world, who will choose the best works submitted, taking into account their quality, approach, originality, and ability to convey the importance of moving towards zero accidents in society.

- Lourdes Maldonado, Journalist and Presenter of RNE.
- Alicia Calvo, Journalist for EL MUNDO Castilla y León and winner of the 21st edition of the Road Safety Journalism Award in the Press and Online Media category.
Solidarity Award and Honorary Journalism Award
As in previous editions, the Road Safety Journalism Award by Línea Directa Foundation includes two other categories: the Solidarity Award, which recognizes the work of associations, organizations, and foundations that have stood out for their commitment to road safety, and the Honorary Road Safety Award, which is awarded to journalists, communication professionals, or entities and organizations with a distinguished career in defending road safety.
The two finalists for the Solidarity Award, which is also endowed with €10,000 net, will be chosen by an Expert Committee and presented to the Jury, which will decide the winner. This committee is composed of the following personalities:
- Luis Montoro González, Honorary President of FESVIAL.
- Tomás García Gazapo, Chief General of the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard.
- Álvaro Gómez, Director of the National Road Safety Observatory of the DGT.
- María Jesús Magro, General Director of the Pons Foundation.
- Juan Luis de Miguel, Director of Research at Centro Zaragoza.
The Honorary Road Safety Award will be awarded directly by Línea Directa Foundation and has no financial endowment.
