This score and the achieved improvements have enabled Línea Directa Aseguradora to become part of the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook 2024 as one of the distinguished companies in the global insurance sector.
Patricia Ayuela, CEO of Línea Directa Aseguradora, expressed pride in receiving this distinction, emphasizing it as recognition of their commitment to sustainability. Advancements in Climate Change Management
In 2023, Línea Directa Aseguradora launched its 2023-2025 Sustainability Plan, the fifth of its kind for the company, integrating sustainability into its overall strategy and corporate culture for over a decade. According to this plan, the company made significant strides in crucial areas such as climate change management.
As a participant in the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosure (TCFD), the insurer aligned with its governance, risk and opportunity management, and metrics requirements. It is also preparing its first report on climate-related risks and opportunities according to the standard of this Task Force created by the G20's Financial Stability Board.
Furthermore, through measures taken to reduce emissions, such as increasing self-generated energy through the installation of photovoltaic panels and sourcing green energy for all its buildings, the insurer reduced its carbon footprint by 88% in the last two years. With these efforts, Línea Directa continues to progress toward its roadmap to become a carbon-neutral company by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions before 2050.
Sustainable Insurance Products
In 2023, the company also adopted the four Principles for Sustainable Insurance (PSI) driven by the financial sector and the United Nations. This initiative aims to promote innovative insurance and risk management solutions contributing to sustainable, inclusive, and resilient economic and social development.
In this regard, Línea Directa focuses part of its strategy on supporting its 3.4 million customers in their transition to a more sustainable economy and society by launching sustainable products in its three lines of business (Motor, Home, and Health insurance).
Throughout 2023, the insurer expanded its "Póliza Respira," an insurance policy with specific coverage for 100% electric cars and motorcycles and plug-in hybrid vehicles. It also introduced a Home insurance policy for ECO homes covering the breakage and theft of photovoltaic installations and the resulting loss of production. Additionally, it launched an innovative coverage to assist customers in cases of illegal occupation of their homes, a problem with over 17,000 cases in Spain each year. Línea Directa became the first insurer to introduce a specific insurance against this phenomenon, called "Hogar Despreokupado."
In the social sphere, the company's policies on employment quality, human rights due diligence procedures, social action programs, and its activity in road safety through the Línea Directa Foundation, one of the most relevant in this field in Spain, are noteworthy.
