Línea Directa advances in its commitment to universal accessibility before the implementation of the new european directive

  • Universal accessibility is a priority for the company. Therefore, Línea Directa has established a specific roadmap to meet the requirements before the European Union Directive comes into force, which urges companies to make their digital assets accessible.
  • The Directive 2019/882, transposed by Law 11/2023, requires that all products, services, and digital assets be accessible to people with disabilities starting in June 2025. This digital inclusion ensures that tools are useful for everyone, regardless of the type of limitation (related to touch, sight, hearing, or speech) and the disability they have (permanent, temporary, or situational).
  • In this regard, Línea Directa's commercial website has been evaluated and has obtained the AA standard, guaranteeing inclusive navigation for all users. This certification demonstrates that the company has an advanced level in terms of universal accessibility. Additionally, in 2023, the entity achieved the AA level on its corporate website.
  • This initiative is part of Línea Directa's sustainability strategy and is included in the actions contemplated by the Group in its 2023-2025 Sustainability Plan, which aims to promote inclusion and equal opportunities. Recently, the company has launched, in this same line of action, a video interpretation service for deaf people in collaboration with Fundación CNSE.

Madrid, 14 January 2025. Línea Directa Aseguradora has advanced in its roadmap for universal accessibility of its digital assets, ahead of the entry into force of the European Union Directive 2019/882. This directive, transposed by Law 11/2023, establishes that all products, services, websites, and digital assets must be fully accessible to people with all types of disabilities from 28 June 2025. The single transitional provision 4 of the new law stipulates that, from this date, all new products and service contracts must comply with accessibility requirements, while previous products and contracts have up to five years to adapt.

This digital inclusion ensures that tools are useful for everyone, regardless of the type of limitation (related to touch, sight, hearing, or speech) and the disability they have (permanent, temporary, or situational). For example, it must be ensured that all people with touch-related disabilities can access digital assets without problems, whether they have one arm due to a traffic accident (permanent disability), a shoulder injury that will heal over time (temporary), or because they have recently become parents and have their baby in their arms most of the time (situational).

In line with the company's commitment to universal accessibility, Línea Directa has taken a significant step by obtaining the AA standard on its commercial website, guaranteeing inclusive navigation for all users. This certification demonstrates that the company has an advanced level in terms of universal accessibility according to the European WCAG/WAI 2.1 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) guidelines of the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium), which establish three levels: A (minimum requirements), AA (best practices), and AAA (maximum level of accessibility). Additionally, in 2023, the entity achieved the AA level on its corporate website.

Some of the best practices that support this are: a new keyboard and focus navigation functionality on the website, improvements in content labeling and the treatment of alternative texts, modification of the privacy policy disclaimers to make them clearer, improvements in increasing the contrast between the colors of some texts to favor readability for people with color blindness and low vision, as well as the introduction of automatic movement in carousels so that people with ADHD can consume information more easily.

These are just some of the improvements implemented in the last year, and the company is advancing in the roadmap to make the rest of its digital assets, such as the customer app, accessible. Additionally, more advances will be developed to monitor and correct any barriers to digital accessibility on websites, ensuring access for all people regardless of their disability or other personal circumstances, allowing them to navigate and communicate with the company without difficulties.

This initiative is part of Línea Directa's sustainability strategy and is included in the actions contemplated by the Group in its 2023-2025 Sustainability Plan, which seeks to promote accessibility, inclusion, and equal opportunities.

Recently, the company has launched, in this same line of action, a video interpretation service for deaf people in collaboration with Fundación CNSE to promote inclusion and accessibility in customer service. This new service allows customers and non-customers with hearing disabilities to make inquiries related to Línea Directa's services and products, including insurance contracting, policy condition inquiries, reporting accidents, or requesting roadside assistance, among many others.

In the words of Mar Garre, Director of People, Communication, and Sustainability of the company, "At Línea Directa, we are deeply committed to universal accessibility. Obtaining the AA Declaration for our commercial website is an important milestone in our sustainability roadmap. We will continue working to ensure that all our digital assets are accessible to everyone, reaffirming our commitment to inclusion and equal opportunities."
