Línea directa offers new customers a year of 'travelling pets' cover for dogs and cats that guarantees veterinary treatment and care in the event of a car accident

• Línea Directa Aseguradora is offering new customers for its car insurance with Roadside Assistance one year of "Travelling Pets" cover. This cover guarantees veterinary treatment in the event of a traffic accident and, if the customer is unable to look after their pet, also its care.
• If the policyholder is unable to take care of their pet dog or cat, Línea Directa will accommodate their pet in a veterinary centre or residence until its owner can collect it.
• This cover also includes the transfer of the companion animal and its treatment in a veterinary centre for a cost of up to 1,000 euros in the event that the pet also suffers an injury as a result of the accident.

Madrid, 2 August 2022. With a view to allowing people who travel by car with their pets to do so with greater peace of mind, Línea Directa Aseguradora is offering customers who transfer their car insurance to the company one year of "Travelling Pets" cover. This cover includes the veterinary treatment of the pet, as well as the accommodation and care of the policyholder's dog or cat in the event of their being unable to take care of it following a traffic accident.

In Spain there are more than 21 million pets, with 26% of households in which there is at least one dog and the same percentage with at least one cat, according to the Madrid Association of Companion Animal Veterinarians (Amvac). Furthermore, the traffic authorities (DGT) predict that this summer alone there will be 93 million long-distance trips made on Spanish roads. If a traffic accident occurs, there is currently no protocol or regulation that indicates what to do with the pets involved in the accident.

To take account of this circumstance, Línea Directa has a "Travelling Pets" insurance solution, which guarantees the protection and comprehensive care of companion dogs and cats in the event of accidents, thus providing their owners with complete peace of mind.

In the event of an accident, and if the policyholder is unable to take care of the pet that was travelling in the same car, Línea Directa will take responsibility for the transfer of the cat or dog to the nearest suitable centre and its emergency veterinary treatment up to a maximum amount of 1,000 euros. In addition, the company will assume responsibility for the care of the pet in a veterinary centre or residence for up to four nights until the policyholder is able to take care of it.

"Travelling Pets" is an an additional guarantee of Línea Directa's Roadside Assistance cover, which includes services and features such as the towing of the broken-down car with a towing vehicle to a workshop, emergency on-road repair, assistance to the people travelling, recovery and shipment of baggage and overseas legal assistance expenses.

Coinciding with the time of year when more car trips will take place, and in order to protect and care for the pets of its policyholders, Línea Directa Aseguradora will offer a free year of this cover to customers who transfer their car insurance policy to the company, take out the Roadside Assistance cover and have 15 points on their driving licence.
